As some of our (historical) followers will know. We’ve been working on the Super Gameboy for quite a bit of time now. It wasn’t until we rolled a oak barrel into the workshop (upcoming project), that we were reminded just how awesome the thing looks. So armed with a barrel of kong coffee, we set about on a Google session like no other to try and find a solution to our problem. “How to output the Gameboy’s screen output to vga?” I found BeenVenn’s electronics using an alternative Google search option i sometimes use, “Image Search”. I typed “DMG gameboy into a TV” and clicked on the images link at the top…… had a look at the 100s of results and finally found something that caught my eye. The DMG Entertainment System (DES)! This uses the original Gameboy motherboard with an all-in-one sub board that combines an NES controller interface with Video conversion and upscaling to convert the DMG gameboy into a full-on TV game console! NO EMULATION 🙂 I contacted Bennvenn straight away via Facebook and got a reply almost instantly . After a small chat, I asked if he could also help with the screen simulation. (The one where a filter makes the screen look like the old Gameboy screen). Seems that this is going to be the next hurdle! Alas, i’m now confident that we’ll be able to output to VGA! I’ll put the specs of the DES below and a link to Bennvenn’s website here. You can also visit our Facebook page and Arcadecontrols.com where we’re documenting our build with the community there. Keep Button bashing! DMG Entertainment System (DES) An all-in-one sub board combines an NES controller interface with Video conversion and upscaling to convert the DMG gameboy into a full-on TV game console! Features 3x video upscaling to fill a full 640×480 VGA screen and a controller interface which will accept NES/SNES control pads. Standard VGA out with 3.5mm stereo socket for audio. USB-mini socket for powering the console, any standard 5v usb outlet will run this guy. Functioning link port for multiplayer support. Tested on various TV’s, monitors and even our 130″ DLP projector 🙂 Pokemon on the big screen!...
